Vogue Leads 20+ OpenAI Publisher Partners in ChatGPT Citations

Ahrefs' 5.5M-answer study finds OpenAI's 20+ licensing partners draw up to 42,108 ChatGPT citations each, with partner share of citations doubling to 15.8% since March 2026.

  • Vogue is the most-cited OpenAI partner with 42,108 ChatGPT citations; The Atlantic gets just 724.
  • Partner share of ChatGPT's top-200 citations rose from 7.5% in March 2026 to 15.8% in July, holding 12.5% in late September.
  • Reddit citations fell from ~1 in 5 ChatGPT answers in March 2026 to ~1 in 43 by late September, plus a further 32% drop.
  • Ten partner domains rank in ChatGPT's 50 most-cited sites; 47 are in the top 500.
  • Reddit reported search referrals down more than one million per week in October 2026, blaming AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Vogue is the most-cited OpenAI publishing partner in ChatGPT, with 42,108 citations in Ahrefs' November 2026 Brand Radar snapshot of 5.5 million US answers. Tom's Guide follows with 36,439, then Car and Driver at 41,603 among Hearst titles. OpenAI has signed content deals with more than 20 publishers since 2023, and the data shows these partners now dominate a growing share of what ChatGPT cites.

The pattern was measurable early. In 2025, only 14% of the top 50 sources were shared across ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews — and ChatGPT's list leaned toward its licensing partners. That lean has grown: in Ahrefs' query fan-out study, partner sites among ChatGPT's 200 most-cited domains rose from 7.5% of citations in March 2026 to 15.8% in July, holding at 12.5% in late September. In other words, roughly one in eight ChatGPT citations now goes to a site OpenAI pays.

Which partners get cited most?

Ten partner domains rank among the 50 sites ChatGPT cites most often; 47 sit in the top 500. The top performers are review and lifestyle sites, not newsrooms. Vogue, Car and Driver, Tom's Guide, Good Housekeeping and TechRadar each appear in more than 30,000 ChatGPT answers.

Future, the UK specialist publisher, leads all partner groups:

  • tomsguide.com — 36,439 citations, rank #15
  • techradar.com — 31,415, #24
  • whowhatwear.com — 26,586, #38
  • tomshardware.com — 11,880, #118
  • pcgamer.com — 10,163, #134

Future's strength is product reviews and buying advice — exactly what people ask ChatGPT. At Condé Nast, seven of nine sites sit in ChatGPT's top 250, with Wired at #34 (26,290 citations) — but The New Yorker and Vanity Fair get only about 3,000 each. Hearst's magazines beat its newspapers: Car and Driver (#18) and Good Housekeeping (#21) both crack the top 25, while the San Francisco and Houston Chronicals each draw fewer than 4,000 citations.

What about the news publishers?

The Washington Post, signed April 2025, is the most-cited single-site news partner: 25,614 citations, rank #48. The Guardian sits 50th with 24,336. Axel Springer was first to sign, in December 2023, covering Business Insider, Politico, Bild and Welt — yet Business Insider gets 16,415 citations while Politico barely registers with 10. The AP, OpenAI's first deal in July 2023, gets 15,761. News Corp's Wall Street Journal does most of that group's work at 18,890; no other News Corp site reaches 6,000.

The clearest cautionary tale is The Atlantic. Despite a May 2024 deal positioning it as a premium source, theatlantic.com gets just 724 citations. A partnership makes a publisher eligible to appear in ChatGPT — it doesn't guarantee it does.

How reliable are these numbers?

They're a single snapshot, and citations move. When Ahrefs' Glen tracked 1,300+ prompts daily for four weeks, only about a quarter of pages cited for a prompt reappeared the next day. The most-cited domains were steadier, changing about 14% day to day, so the big partner figures are the most reliable in the dataset. Non-English publishers are undercounted because the data is US-only — Le Monde (713), Schibsted's Nordic titles and Spain's El País all look artificially small. Recent deals from September 2026, including India's Times Group and Indian Express Group, are baselines rather than verdicts.

What's happening with Reddit?

Reddit's data deal differs from publisher licenses; it gives OpenAI API access to user-generated content. Reddit is the second most-cited site in ChatGPT, behind Wikipedia, with 150,388 citations. But it's sliding fast. About 1 in 5 ChatGPT answers cited Reddit in March 2026; by late September it was about 1 in 43. Reddit said on its Q3 2026 earnings call that search referrals fell by more than one million a week in October, mainly due to AI Overviews and AI Mode, and its ChatGPT citations dropped another 32% in the latest Ahrefs update.

Reddit still matters for visibility. When Ahrefs compared seven types of brand mentions with AI visibility, mentions in Reddit threads that rank in Google showed the strongest link, a correlation of about 0.75.

The takeaway for marketers

Pick PR targets by how often ChatGPT already cites them in your niche, then use the partner list to break ties. A partner site writing about your brand is far more likely to surface in ChatGPT answers. Watch whether the partner citation share — 12.5% in late September — keeps climbing, and whether Google's AI Overviews pressure pushes Reddit's referral losses onto other community platforms next.
